Use energy saving light bulbs.
Turn off all appliances in the house and unplug when not in use.
Set your thermostat as high as comfortably possible.
Weatherize.  Have proper caulking and weather stripping.
Close window shades and curtains to deflect sunlight away from the inside of your home.
Use a fan with your window air conditioner to spread cool air effectively through your home.
Don't place lamps or tvs near window air condition thermostats.  The heat from these will cause your air conditioner to run longer.
